An analysis of the jazz standard «All The Things You Are» aims to show, as an example, how a piece of music that at first s ight s eems t o be v ery simple c an reveal, on closer inspection, considerable sophistication and depth. We will here discuss relationships between melody, harmony, form and lyrics and learn how an analytical approach to a piece of music can serve to develop rather diverse exercises.
